Brinley joined the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA), initially on a temporary basis, in July 1985, having graduated from Sheffield University with a BA in Ancient History & Classical Civilisation. He worked for the DMA in a number of roles, before being appointed to the position of Exports Director in June 1999. In October 2009, following the creation of ADS through the merger of the DMA, APPSS and SBAC, he became the new organisation’s Director – Overseas & Exports.

The vast majority of his work constitutes providing export and trade controls, offset and industrial participation, and market intelligence-related help, advice and assistance to British companies. In this capacity he acts as Secretary to the Export Group for Aerospace, Defence & Dual Use (EGADD), the Defence Export Strategy Group (DESG) and the British Industrial Participation & Offset Group (BIPOG) special interest groups.

As Secretary to EGADD, he provides help and advice to companies on export control matters and liaises closely with the Export Control Organisation (ECO), Ministry of Defence (UK), Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), Department for International Development (DfID) and Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), as well as with other industry bodies and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). He is also a Member of the London Countertrade Roundtable (LCR).

Gobi completed his schooling as a Science Graduate from Sherwood College (Nainital) in 1973 and then was commissioned in to the Indian Armoured Corps in 1978. Over next two decades in the Indian Army, he served at various apex operational, technical and research tenures. He also trained overseas and held assignments connected with modernizing/equipping the Indian Defence Forces. In 2002 he joined the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA) of UK as Regional Director South Asia and established operations in the region to support Member companies. As these UK trade associations merged, he transitioned into ADS Group Ltd.

The ADS has ongoing successful MoUs /working arrangements with leading trade associations such as CII, FICCI, PHDCCI and UKIBC, to stage major seminars, exhibitions and networking forums, where UK companies can seek out new business in the region. Gobi has been positioned in New Delhi to assist ADS Member Companies to interact, conduct and secure aerospace, defence and security sector business with various departments of Indian Government, Embassies /High Commissions, Trade Associations, local industry and neighbouring countries. He is a regular participant at forums in the UK and India, to cover the Indian defence, aerospace, security industry and offsets sector.
